I’m not sure who is more excited about this mini Haunted Gingerbread House, my kiddos or me. Last Christmas, I had these cute little gingerbread houses from One Charming Party on my to do list, and just ran out of time. I saw a few haunted gingerbread house kits at the stores this year, and thought it would be fun to make my own version, inspired by One Charming Party.
Royal Icing – I used Wilton Meringue Powder and their recipe for royal icing.
Small cake rounds or paper plates
Pastry bag or plastic baggie
Step One: Gather supplies and prepare royal icing.
Step Two: Trim graham crackers with serrated knife by cutting slowly and carefully on a flat surface.
Step Three: Assemble houses using royal icing as glue. You can also use hot glue if you don’t have any little ones who plan on eating the houses at some point.
Step Four: Have fun decorating!
I kept my haunted gingerbread house simple. I added candy corn shingles and used royal icing to draw a door. The light post is a paper straw with a sour orange candy on top. The little ghosts are my favorite part. I pinched the tops of mini marshmallows to form a peak and dotted little tiny eyes on using an edible marker.
Now that I’ve made the model home, my kids are excited to decorate their own. I’ve prepped by building the houses ahead of time and adhering them to a small cake round with royal frosting. I also divided the candy decorations into muffin tins to keep them organized. I’ll be sharing those creations via Instagram, so find me there if you want to check out the fun!
