Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider

November 5, 2012 by Melissa 20 Comments

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider

When the weather turns cooler, one of my favorite things to make for a family gathering is slow cooker apple cider. This year, I thought it would be fun to mix it up and make slow cooker caramel apple cider. It was a huge hit and the perfect treat on a crisp fall day.

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider

Serves 12

Ingredients

12 cups of apple juice – I bought a gallon and had a little leftover

6 cinnamon sticks

1/2 cup of good quality jarred caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling

Whipped cream

Directions

Heat apple juice and cinnamon sticks in the slow cooker for about 4 hours on high. Let the cinnamon sticks soften and uncurl. Before serving, stir in 1/2 cup of caramel sauce and serve in heat proof cups. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.

Recipe note: I use a 5 quart slow cooker

When the apple juice is very hot, the caramel may start to seperate. That’s ok, just give it a stir and it is perfect again.

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider

The really great thing about making this in the slow cooker is the amazing smell that fills your home. I hope you and your family enjoy!

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cider pairs perfectly with my Snickerdoodles recipe:

The title says “cider” but the recipe says “apple juice”. Have you tried it with actual cider?

Is there anyway to make just a cup of this or to freeze it? No one in my house like hot apple of any sort!

A single serving would be great, just reduced the ingredients. I think you will love it!

This was so easy and tasted complex and wonderful! I made it with a good quality apple cider instead of the apple juice. Made it 5 hours before a fall party, put the crock pot on low, and forgot all about it, except for the fact the house smelled like heaven! Everyone was shocked to know it was so simple! Yum!

I’m definitely going to make this! The “apple pie” aroma in the house must be awesome!

I would love to know, is there a way to make a single serving of this? assumedly you use 1 cup instead of 12, but would you still use the one cup in a slow cooker, or how else would you do it?
