Ingredients

  • 1 pound of breakfast sausage
  • 1 tablespoon of butter plus 2 tablespoon melted butter for brushing on biscuits after cooking
  • 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 cup of whole milk warmed
  • 1 16.3 oz container of Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Original Biscuits
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a 12 inch cast iron skillet or oven safe pan, cook breakfast sausage over medium high heat, breaking up sausage with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  3. Once sausage is cooked through, melt one tablespoon of butter in pan and sprinkle in flour.
  4. Stir sausage and flour mixture for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Slowly stream in warm whole milk, whisking as you pour.
  6. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of salt and plenty of freshly ground pepper to taste
  7. Let mixture come to a simmer and give a final stir. Gravy will continue to thicken in the oven.
  8. Divide biscuits in half by separating layers.
  9. Place on top of gravy and bake until biscuits are golden brown, about 15-17 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and brush biscuits with melted butter.
