Equipment

  • 4 quart or larger skillet or dutch oven

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 pounds ground turkey 93/7
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth divided
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes canned
  • 15 oz can of black beans drained
  • 15.5 oz can of kidney beans drained
  • 1/4 cup masa flour Maseca recommended

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil to medium heat and sauté onions until they start to soften. Add garlic and sauté for another minute. Stir in chili powder and cumin and let spices sauté for about a minute to bloom the flavors.
  • Increase heat to medium-high and add turkey, breaking up as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper. Add 1 cup of chicken broth, tomatoes, and beans. Cover and reduce heat to low. Let simmer covered for about 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
  • In a small bowl, stir together masa flour and 1/2 cup of chicken broth until smooth. Add masa mixture to turkey chili and let simmer until thickened. Top with chopped fresh cilantro and your favorite chili toppings.
