My kiddos love the Horizon Organic Milk Boxes, and they especially love the vanilla flavor. It inspired me to make my own version, and here it is, homemade vanilla milk. It’s a quick treat I like to make for them using fat-free milk and only a little bit of sugar.
All you need is 8 ounces of milk (one cup), 1/2 a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract and one teaspoon of sugar, add them together and give it a stir. A tasty wholesome treat for your little ones!
I bought some of these adorable paper straws from Mindy Mae’s Market, and the kids LOVE using them. They make a simple treat a little bit more special.
Aren’t these straws so cute? I love the retro soda shop vibe!
HomemadeVanilla Milk
8 ounces (1 cup) of milk
1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of sugar
Stir and enjoy!
I’d love for you to keep up on my new posts and recipes by clicking on these cute buttons below, or follow me on Facebook and Twitter. You can also find me on Pinterest, that’s my favorite place to hang out and I’d love to see you there!
Thanks for reading!

PS – One teaspoon of sugar is equal to about 4 grams, so this treat measures up favorably to pre made juice drinks and flavored milk, which have much, much more!

I used to make something like this in grad school, except I warmed it up and added cinnamon, to make me fall asleep after long hours in the architecture studio. I hadn’t thought of it for kids, great idea, mine would love it:)

Thanks so much! My son loves New Horizon’s Vanilla milk too (doens’t like chocolate if you can believe it!) so I’ve been looking for an easy way to whip some vanilla milk up for him. Tried a couple things, but they didn’t work out, so i will definitely be trying this one!:)
Awesome!!!!
Found your site through pinterest, newest follower! My 3 year old thanks you for this recipe LOL.
I can’t wait to try this! Came over from tatertots & jello link party because of your beautiful photograph! I have three boys who would LOVE this…and at only 4 grams of sugar…I cringe to think of how many teaspoons are in other drinks aimed at our kids, yikes! Would love for you to come share at my link party! https://www.dwellonjoy.com/2012/04/dwell-on-friday-fourteen.html. Have a great weekend!
We make this hot and call it vanilla tea! It is the first thing my son asks for if he feel sick. (even now at 17lol)
I’m not a kid (I’m 27) but I also LOVE those little vanilla milk boxes from Horizon. I even pick them up in bulk at Costco since they’re shelf stable and all. I’ll have to try making it myself though, since those little suckers are pretty pricey. Thanks a bunch for sharing!
I would love it if you would link up at Watch Out, Martha!’s first link up party: Martha Mondays, starting tomorrow! Hope to see you there! (www.watchoutmartha.net )
sounds super YUM to me!! 🙂 added to my ‘food & drink’ pinterest collection!
My kiddos (and some for Mom too!) will love this. I am a new reader, creating over at https://www.twelveoeight.blogspot.com/ – Tanya 🙂
Oh my goodness that is amazing! For some reason I couldn’t find the sugar [???!] so I replaced that with brown sugar and it is So Good. Thank you for posting this! I am sure the kids will love this!
So good! I added a drop of green food coloring and will be serving it for St Patrick’s Day breakfast tomorrow. Thanks!
I tried this and I loved it! I added a little more vanilla and a little more sugar for sweetness.
Add a dash of Nutmeg to make it a simple virgin eggnog.
I always crave sweet vanilla milk now I finally found a great recipe! Though I do recommend adding literally a few more drops of vanilla and another teaspoon of sugar but otherwise its great
