Homemade Fry Sauce

July 12, 2013 by Melissa 19 Comments

Homemade Fry Sauce

Are you familiar with fry sauce? We recently had a Freddy’s open in our city, and they have the yummiest fry sauce! They call it Freddy’s sauce, and it’s my new favorite condiment! I’ve been on a mission to develop a recipe for homemade fry sauce. Homemade fry sauce is pretty simple, but it took me a while to find the perfect ratio of ingredients.

Homemade fry sauce is perfect on fries but is also delicious on homemade cheeseburgers and patty melts!

Homemade fry sauce, the perfect condiment for fries and burgers.
Course: Condiment
Cuisine: American
Servings: 4
Author: Melissa @ No. 2 Pencil
Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup of ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dill pickle juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Lawry's Seasoned Salt
Instructions
  1. Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Makes about 1 cup of sauce.
Are you a fry sauce fan? From what I understand, it is really popular in Utah.I’m extremely grateful to Freddy’s, for bringing it to California!

Are you familiar with Freddy’s? I had never heard of it until they opened one not far from our house. Our whole family has quickly become fans. The burger patties are very thin, which I love, and freshly cooked. They churn the custard (ice cream) daily, and the Freddy’s Turtle Sundae is a yummy treat!

You know this is a Utah thing? Utah’s had it for YEARS. I’m interested to hear that it’s making its way around the country now!

Thanks for the recipe! I grew up in Utah always having fry sauce. I went to California as a teenager and asked for fry sauce at a restaurant. They looked at me like I was from Mars. I love it – Happy to see it finally spreading to the rest of the world!

I work at a Freddys, first Freddys sauce is a thousand island style sauce. Fry sauce is a Freddys exclusive which is usually made at the store. Congrats to getting close but your proportions are a little off and Freddys does offer shakers of their seasoning for a more authentic taste.

I grew up in Boise, Idaho and they serve this fry sauce at most of the old drive-in style burger joints with fries and especially with tater tots or gems – very popular and just not the same anywhere else (never eaten at a Freddys though). My kids love it – fun to see it pop up we’ll have to try it out! Hmmm….what next? A recipe for finger steaks? (another regional thing found only in that little corner of the country)!

I was eating mayonnaise and ketsup on potato chips, 45 years ago, when I was a kid. Chips and Fries are similar foods, so I totally understand how this fry sauce would be good.

This is a good recipe. We add a little onion and garlic powder sometimes along with a tad bit of horseradish and pepper. And it’s funny that there are comments about this being a Utah thing, I have always lived in the Northwest (WA and OR) and have been making fry sauce for over 20 years and my husband who is also from here for over 30 years…..don’t think it’s just a Utah thing.
