Finger Hot Dogs for Halloween
Call these hot dogs whatever fits your theme best! I think they could be witches’ fingers, mummy fingers, or even bloody fingers for a Halloween horror theme. What I love about these hot dogs is how much they make everyone laugh! Last year, we had a Halloween-themed movie night and I surprised my family with these “fingers” and the reactions were priceless! These make a fun and affordable dinner on Halloween night when kids are busy trick-or-treating or a budget-friendly party food.
What Hot Dogs Franks to Use
This technique works with any kind of hot dog frank. We have used classic franks, Kosher beef franks, and skinless beef franks. They all come out looking slightly different but just as creepy! In these photos, I used Hebrew Nationals.
How to Make Finger Hot Dogs
A few simple cuts before cooking turn regular hot dogs into creepy finger hot dogs once they are cooked.
- Use a small sharp paring knife.
- Use the knife tip to draw the outline of a fingernail.
- Lay the knife sideways and cut thin pieces of the fingernail away.
- Then make three slices at each knuckle point.
Hot to Cook the Finger Hot Dogs
We use a hot dog steamer and we absolutely love it. The steamer pictured here is a retro diner theme and we have used it so often in the last two years. It steams the hot dogs and the buns and everyone loves them. Plus you can keep them on the warm setting for self-serve. You can cook the hot dogs any way that you would usually make hot dogs. These can go on the grill, a griddle, or even a slow cooker. The finished look will be slightly different, but again, just as creepy and fun!

What to Serve with Finger Hot Dogs
These are great with chili for chili dogs or my favorite kid-friendly Instant Pot Mac and Cheese.
Finger Hot Dog Board
Just for fun, I decided to serve the finger hot dogs charcuterie style on a big board. I added classic hot dogs topping like mustard and ketchup and mixed in some spicy mayo which my husband and son loved. The spicy mayo is just a small amount of sriracha mixed with mayo. Then I used the sriracha bottle to draw a spiderweb on top. I filled the board in with classic dill pickle slices and salt and pepper kettle chips.
